Uzbekistan and the World Health Organization review prospects for expanded cooperation in New York City

NEW YORK, March 28. /Dunyo IA/.  On March 25, a meeting was held between Tamila Alieva, Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of Uzbekistan, and Werner Obermeyer, Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) office at UN Headquarters in New York, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the negotiations, high praise was given to the reforms implemented under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, including the development of the healthcare system, the introduction of the "One Health" approach and measures to combat non-communicable diseases.

WHO expressed its readiness to continue providing comprehensive support to Uzbekistan in developing primary healthcare, public health, the fight against non-communicable diseases, the implementation of mandatory health insurance and the digitalization of the sector.

Special attention was given to international cooperation in pediatric oncology, rare diseases, and mental health, as well as the outcomes of the international forum on these topics held in New York.

The importance of the upcoming visit to Uzbekistan by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was emphasized. As part of the preparations for this visit, initiatives to expand interaction with the WHO were discussed.

Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening their cooperation.
