Uzbekistan’s higher education institutions adopt Malaysian agricultural research experience

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16. /Dunyo IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Karomiddin Gadoev, met with Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of University Putra Malaysia (UPM), reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the meeting, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation on the implementation of agreements reached during the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Malaysia in February of this year. They focused on the development of mutually beneficial projects in the agricultural sector, joint research, the launch of start-ups, and the promotion of innovative and sustainable solutions.

Founded in 1971, University Putra Malaysia is the second-largest public university in the country (after the University of Malaya) and a leading institution in the field of agriculture. According to the QS World University Rankings, it holds the 148th position globally. UPM comprises 15 faculties, 13 institutes and schools, and has an enrollment of over 31,000 students. With a large campus spanning 1,245 hectares, UPM is a research-intensive institution offering a comprehensive academic and innovation ecosystem. It hosts a wide range of laboratories, research centers (including halal research), agroforestry areas, forests, hospitals, a veterinary hospital, a sports complex, and energy infrastructure.

The UPM leadership expressed its readiness to establish cooperation with relevant higher education institutions in Uzbekistan in areas related to food security, particularly agriculture, engineering, veterinary science, forestry, irrigation, environmental protection, crop production, as well as nano- and biotechnology.

Recognizing Uzbekistan’s extensive experience in higher agricultural education, the importance of close collaboration and knowledge exchange was emphasized, particularly with the Tashkent State Agrarian University and the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to draft and sign memoranda of understanding outlining cooperation in specific areas between universities, and to jointly implement practical projects of mutual interest.
