TASHKENT, November 20. /Dunyo IA/. An environmental campaign organized by the European Union took place at the Tashkent Botanical Garden as part of the Green Diplomacy Week, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

More than 50 participants—including staff of EU member state embassies, representatives of civil society, students, schoolchildren, and volunteers—gathered at the Tashkent Botanical Garden to contribute to the preservation of one of the capital’s most significant green areas. The initiative was organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan with the support of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, within the framework of the global Green Diplomacy Week initiative.
Green Diplomacy Week are held annually across the world from September to November, highlighting the EU’s commitment to advancing the environmental agenda and combating climate change. The event in Tashkent became part of this international campaign aimed at raising environmental awareness among young people, local communities, and the wider public.
Participants cleaned the grounds of the botanical garden, which is home to more than 2,000 plant species, many of which hold unique natural and scientific value. Organizers emphasized that the preservation of such natural spaces is impossible without public involvement—from consistent, systematic work by government structures to the everyday actions of each city resident.
Following the clean-up, participants joined interactive quizzes on ecology, climate change, and sustainable living. Young people took an active part in discussions, and the most engaged and attentive participants received commemorative gifts from the EU Delegation.
"The main idea behind the EU’s 'Green Diplomacy Weeks’ is to show that environmental protection begins with each of us. If we can unite and inspire others through our example, that is already an achievement. We hope that such civic engagement becomes the norm across Uzbekistan, because caring for nature is everyone’s responsibility," noted the European Union Ambassador to Uzbekistan", - Toivo Klaar.
According to the organizers, such initiatives help not only to support urban ecosystems but also to inspire people to adopt responsible environmental practices. Large-scale community actions serve as an important tool for environmental education, engage young people, and strengthen international cooperation in the field of sustainable development.
At the conclusion of the event, the Delegation of the European Union expressed gratitude to all participants for their contribution and called on residents of the capital to maintain cleanliness and care for urban spaces, making them greener and more comfortable.
