Uzbek culture showcased in the capital of India

NEW DELHI, May 13. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbek culture was prominently featured at a recent international cultural festival hosted by one of India’s leading academic institutions, Jamia Millia Islamia University, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

At the traditional event titled "Echoes of Eleven", university students recited poetry, performed songs in various languages, including Uzbek, and showcased traditional national dances.

Diplomats from the Embassy of Uzbekistan highlighted the country’s rich multicultural identity, noting that more than 130 ethnic groups live in harmony within the state. They emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering equal development and support for the Uzbek language alongside other languages.

Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that interethnic harmony and religious tolerance are among Uzbekistan’s greatest assets – values that are carefully preserved and continually strengthened.

Since 2004, Jamia Millia Islamia has offered Uzbek language courses. Under the leadership of Professor Shahid Tasleem, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, a series of Uzbek language textbooks and teaching materials have been developed. Several collections have also been published to explore the deep historical ties between the peoples of Uzbekistan and India.

Currently, the university is preparing to launch a full undergraduate program in Uzbek language, literature, and culture, set to begin in the 2025–2026 academic year.
