Interreligious dialogue and tolerance on the agenda of Uzbekistan-Sweden cooperation

STOCKHOLM, March 29. /Dunyo IA/. As part of the visit to Sweden by an Uzbekistan delegation led by the Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan Mufti Sheikh Nuriddin Kholiqnazarov, a series of meetings were held aimed at strengthening interreligious dialogue, tolerance and social ties between the two countries, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

In particular, substantive negotiations were held with Julia Kronlid, Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag); Björn Söder, Chairman of the “Sweden – Central Asia” Parliamentary Friendship Group; Christian Kamil, Ambassador and Special Representative of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs for Interreligious Dialogue; as well as members of the Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Mahmoud Khalfi, the Chief Imam-Khatib of the Stockholm Mosque, and representatives of Stockholm's churches.

The Swedish side noted Uzbekistan's policy aimed at creating an atmosphere of a single family for representatives of various faiths, as well as promoting religious tolerance and interethnic friendship. It was emphasized that practical measures in this area make a significant contribution to strengthening peace and stability in Central Asia.

The parties emphasized the mutual interest of specialized government bodies and religious organizations in further developing cooperation, including the implementation of joint events and pilot projects.

Dilorom Fayzieva, a deputy of the Oliy Majlis, proposed several new initiatives to revitalize inter-parliamentary ties between Uzbekistan and Sweden, suggesting these be explored through the existing friendship groups in both parliaments.
